Weimars Oak

This tree is associated with the early founding of the Hondo area. John Weimers, an early settler and a German, moved to New Fountain in 1854. He settled this area and this oak was on his land. While attending a church service in 1858 John Weimers along with his wife was converted to the Methodist faith. For the next several years many prayer meetings were held under this oak. In 1862 the Weimers dedicated land for the building of a church, the New Fountain Methodist Church was built within sight of the Weimers Oak. This oak is on private property please respect the owner's rights and call the owner to arrange permission to view the tree.

Start: Intersection of SH-173 and FM-2676 northeast of Hondo.

Go east on FM-2676 for 3.7 miles to CR-451. Turn right (south) on CR-451 and go .7 miles to CR-454. Turn left (east) on CR-454 and go .1 miles. The tree is on the left (north) side of the road behind a house. 29° 22.596' N 099° 03.462' W
